The Outsiders report by Carlos Abad

Outsiders - book report

Outsiders is a teenagers` book written by Susan E. Hilton, an American writer who wrote this book at the age of sixteen. The book is about the differences between social classes and the lifestyle of the lower classes in an American city.

Summary

Ponyboy Curtis is a greaser (member of lower-class group) whose parents have died and he lives with his two brothers; Darry and Sodapop. They form a band with Two-Bit Matthew, Winston Dallas, Johnny and Steve Randle.

One day, after returning from the cinema where they had met two girls, their boyfriends (socs, upper-class group and the enemies of the greasers) wanted to hit them. When Johnny saw that the socs were going to drown Ponyboy, he killed one soc and the rest of them fled. They escape from the city with the help of Dallas.

One day, the church where they were hiding caught fire and many children were inside the church. Johnny and Ponyboy rescued the children, but the roof fell above Johnny, and they have to return to the city to take him to hospital.

In the city, socs and greasers had organized a fight. Greasers won the fight, but then Johnny died in the hospital and then, Dallas committed suicide.

I recommend reading this book because it´s entertaining, exciting and very realistic, and it has a powerful history with interesting characters. If you decide to read this book, I´m sure that you will enjoy it.
