Odette Toulemonde

The joy of reading
Reading broadens your knowledge by opening up the whole world to you. It can powerfully strengthen your imagination and your own ability to communicate.
I love reading. I have been reading since I can remember. I can´t live without a good book before going bed. While I´m reading, I´m visiting another country, a different period of time, or travelling across space.
Books have always been an inspiration for me. When I have a good book, I´m feeling like having a good friend. I´ve learned about different professions, grammar, geography and history from reading. I developed, also, my vocabulary.
Sometimes I re-read my favorite books. Reading them twice gives me chance to pay attention to different sections and experience them differently.
Even after a long day of reading difficult stuff for school, I can pick a good book and read it for fun and relaxation.
Sadly, nowadays, reading has plunged down. Dramatically. Books are not as popular as they were in the past. Most of people find reading a book boring or maybe even a work. They prefer getting entertainment from computer, TV, iPods…etc… I´m not trying to say that those things are bad, because they are useful and nowadays we can´t live without them. But a book is always a good break, and it can slowly become a good inspiration, or even a good friend. I think that reading takes us away from bad things that happen in our lives, and the joys of reading have to be experienced.

The Shiva’s tears
The Shiva’s tears is one of my favorite books. I recommend it to all the people who like the romantic books. The book was written by César Mallorquí.
It is a book that presents a problem of love.
Javier, the protagonist of this story is going to spend the summer in Santander, the town where his uncles have a mansion called Villa Candelaria. His father is ill. Villa Candelaria is boring until he meets his cousins: Rosa, Margarita, Violeta y Azucena. One day his Javier asks Violeta what the tears of Shiva were and who Beatriz Obregon was. Her cousin told him, the tears of Shiva was a necklace that the Mendoza family gave to Beatriz.
She escaped from the marriage with the Mendoza family and they claimed the necklace, but the Obregon’s family didn’t know about it. Javier feel the presence of a ghost. He told Violeta, and she told him that she saw it too. She thought it was a ghost, a female harmless ghost. They began researching in the library of Beatirz. One day that they began to learn from clues from the ghost. They found many things about her. Until one day Javier came up with the idea of going to the storeroom to find the Beatriz furniture because he thought that the necklace could be there. They searched, searched and searched but they didn’t find anything. Until they found a letter signed by her. It was addressed to his dear Simon Cienfuegos, a black captain who had the Savanna, a ship that, long ago, departed to America.
In Beatriz surely went with him. The next day went to the house of Amalia, an old woman who told the news. But the old woman knew everything. Next day they returned home but did not say anything new. The search began again in the attic and the next day Javier got up early and again he went to the house of Amalia. Amalia seemed angry already. At the end Amalia got fed up and said, ‘take, take the necklace, Keep it and do not come here anymore’. Javier went away from home with a very old metal box and, without opening it. When he arrived at Villa Candelaria he showed the necklace to his cousins and quickly to their parents. They dressed up very quickly and they went to give it to the Mendoza family. The Mendoza and Obregon were at peace since then. Javier went to Madrid because his father had improved and Javier and Violeta fell in love.

My favourite book is “The murder”. A boy lives in North American, in Florida. He always says Florida is a very beutiful and interesting country . In Florida he was pursued because manu peolple thought he was a criminal. The police looked around the country and the police finally found out who the criminal in the North the Florida was. The criminal spent forty years old in jail. He was twenty eight and finished when he was old.
“The murder” is a book very interesting, very emotional and very nice. In my opinion this book is very popular around the planet and very interesting for all the people.

I liked this book very much because is so funny and interesting. There are a lot of adventures in Gerry’s life that catch you.
Gerald "Gerry" Malcolm Durrell, OBE (January 7, 1925 – January 30, 1995) was a naturalist, zookeeper, conservationist, author, and television presenter. He founded what is now called the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Jersey Zoo (now renamed Durrell Wildlife) on the Channel Island of Jersey in 1958, but is perhaps best remembered for writing a number of books based on his life as an animal collector and enthusiast. He was the brother of the novelist Lawrence Durrell.

Reading, by Maria Fernández
I’m not really interested on the reading at the school. It’s very interesting, entertaining… But I prefer to read my own books. I like fantasy and action book I hate history and war books, they are very boring.
Normally, I choose the book, if I like the cover, though I always read the blurb because sometimes they are horrible and looks very boring.
When I like the summary, this means that it’s going to be an entertaining book. When I have free time, when I finish my homework, and before going to bed, I spend some time to read. I’m not a fanatic of reading, and it isn’t the best thing that I like doing but, sometimes it’s very relaxing, because it is the only time of the day, that you can be quiet, and with out any stressful thing around you, since you are open minded.
My favourite writer is Federico Moccia. He is an Italian writer. My favourite book is “ A tres metros sobre el cielo”. The book it’s about a boy and a girl that fall in love, but they come from very different worlds. The girl it’s a brilliant student, and the perfect daughter. On the other hand, the boy, Step, it’s an aggressive teenager, and he didn’t care about the studies, regardless, they fight for their love. She managed to make Step change, and they live a love story. I have already read all the book of that collection.

Harry Potter
I have read all the Harry Potter´s books, and the story is absolutely fantastic. There´re seven books. I think the numbers four, five, six and seven are better than the others, because the other books were more childish, but the latter story becames for adults.
The plot is not complicated: Harry, Ron and Hermione are wizards and they study in Howarts. The story starts when they arrive to the school for the first time. They live exciting and curious adventures while they´re becaming adults. Everybody at the school knows who Harry is. In the most of the books, Harry and his friends fight versus Lord Voldemort and his people. Voldemort is the antagonist of the story, he is an evil person. He killed Harry´s parents when he was a baby, and Voldemort wanted to kill Harry too, but strangely he survived and Voldemort remained weak for a long time. Only Harry can kill him.
At the moment there´re six films about the story. Recently, the number seven part one was released in the spanish cinemas. I´m thrilled about it because I´m a crazy fan. The book number seven, ``Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows´´, is probably the best, and there are a lot of things about it. So, Disney has done two films for this book. I prefer two parts, because I love Harry Potter´s world, though the films don´t reflect the story very good.
Those books are the best that I have read, and I read a lot.
Thanks for J.K. Rowling for writing them.
"I'll never be your hero" by Carlos Beltrán
Her girlfriend Sara left him, he always argued with her parents, he failed five subjects in his school…
But he likes drawing. He is a good artist and he would like to dedicate it.
Later, he spoke with the new Sara’s boyfriend, Jaime to do a work of class. Jaime told him that he could study better if he used the art. Andres paid attention to him and he passed all of his exams.
I recommend this book for other teenagers because I think that someone can be in the same situation and this book can help them.

If he fights hard to get on in life, his friends will help him and he will be happier with himself.
The book shows you that if you want to change your life you will be a better person.
María Menéndez Ponte writes novels about teenagers’ problems and she has also other books like “El poso amargo
FALSE MOVEMENT
One day the father leaves her to go out of holidays with the boyfriend. The story focuses on the daughter because it turns out that she does not find the boyfriend and they go to look for him. It turns out that the one that they were looking was not his boyfriend it was different with the same nickname. The father thinks that he is a bad person and does not really on the daughter. In the end, they return to the bar to which they have been with Chapi and find it, after an accident the father of the daughter dies.
In my opinion it is a good book and I recommend it because it is entertaining and until the end you do not guess what is going to happen.

The girl on the other platform
PLOT:
It tells the story about two twins, who are physically the same, but their behaviours are completely different and they only talk about important things. Miguel enjoys going out to parties with friends, getting drunk, meeting girls. He is an spontaneous and open boy. However he hates studying, writing, reading… Unlike his brother Edward, who is a responsible, student, a shy guy, who doesn’t go out on weekends with friends and because he is very bad at flirting with girls.
In the novel the two brothers will discover that they have in common much more than they believed. Two girls: Irene and Yolanda, who are smart, beautiful and fun, and they don’t know each other, come into the life of these so different twin brothers. Miguel will meet Yolanda in a drinking night. She is a young journalist. Miguel tries to impress her with tales that his brother writes. Miguel gets them rubbing the stories. Yolanda was angry with Miguel because she discovered the truth and he, who is in love with her, writes a story called: the girl on the other platform. Yolanda finally forgave him. Meanwhile, Edward knew a girl called Irene on the Internet and he finally decided to meet her for a walk through the streets of
One morning, the two brothers, skipped classes together and shared their experiences, discovering that they are more similar than they believed. They even planed to spend the summer together with their respective girlfriends.
OPINION:
I recommend this book for teens because they could feel identified with one of the two brothers, and for parents who don’t understand the difficult behaviour and ‘’the ups and downs’’ of their children.

They met, one day, when Niki was going to high school and she had a car accident with Alex. On the next days, despite their age difference, they fell in love. Alex and Niki lived a romantic story that never ends.
I like this book because it's atypical love story, and i like it because it has a happy ending. I like other books such as "Twilight" and "Three metres above heaven".
THE LORD OF RINGS
In the begining the action happened in a village. A hobbit found a ring which belonged to ´´Sauron´´. Sauron is the king of the Dark Power. He wanted to destroy the world of the middle age. The name of the hobbit is Frodo Bolson. When he found the ring the war of the Middle Ages started. After that the Dark Power wanted to recover it because this ring could make back Sauron to live . When the war started, a lot of humans and dwarves wanted to fight against Sauron and destroy the ring but this could be possible if the ring fell from the Tower of Lava because it was the only way of destroy this ring. Frodo Bolson protected this ring with a little help of humans, dwarves and his best friend ´´Sam´´.
In the end, Frodo Bolson and his friends trew the ring down the Tower of Lava and Sauron didn´t return because the ring was destroyed and the Dark Power dissappeared.
I like this book because it is very very interesting and striking. It is an exciting story and I enyoyed it because it reflects the wars two millions years ago. This story is also dramatic because in the story there are a lot of people who die. The story is very exciting and this book is also very popular in other regions. My favourite science ficcion book is the Lord of Rings.

Da vichu code
This book is about a murder at the Louvre museum, Paris. A member of the Opus Dei was killing all the important members of an important sect called “Priorate of Sion”. This sect had to protect some documents about the origin of the Catholic Church. A criptologier Sophie and an expert about symbols, tried to find out the paper, but the police and the Opus Dei didn’t make thing easy. They followed all the clues. Eventually the end of the book isn’t very clear because the book continues. It’s a part of a trilogy.
I like this book because it’s interesting and you enjoy reading it. It isn’t boring and it has a lot of mysteries.
BOOKS
I love reading all kinas of books. I enjoy all the different styles. Reading is amazing. You can feel that you are in a part of our world or you can fly to another planet where people are green, blue, with two heads, all anything you can imagine. You may be he happiest person in the world with a humour book or the saddest with an emotional book.
The last book that I have read is `El parque prohibido´ Andrés Ibáñez wrote this book in 2005. It’s an adventure book. The plat is about a park which is very dangerous and none dares to enter. A group of kids tried to enter and inside are many strange things and they have to look for `wishes tree`. Then they escaped.
It’s a very good book. I recommend it anyone. In the book, you have to think what the things are more important for you, and choose one. This book is great and you have to read it.

“3 metres above heaven”
One day, Babi was in a birthday party when, suddenly, Step and his friends arrive and destroyed everything. The owner´s house called to the police. Babi and Step had to escape on the Step´s motor bike.
On the following days, they started to spend same time together and slowly, they feel in love. Babi and Step live a romantic story, and they had to bring face to Babi´s parents, because they don´t accept Step.
I like this book because it isn´t an ordinary love story. I like other books of this writer like: “Perdona sit e llamo amor”. “3 metres above heaven” is a beautiful story but, it has got a dramatic final.
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
I read this book 3 years ago and l loved it. ‘The Hobbit’ is one of the best books that I’ve ever read.
JRR Tolkien I think that Tolkien has been one of the most important fantasy writers in the world. He was born in South Africa but he lived in England when he was young. He wrote other important books like ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Silmarilion’.

A phantasy-story about the influence of brothers Grimm
„Nachts in der Bibliothek“ tells the story of a person who has accepted the job as a cleaner at the local library. Since the protagonist loves reading, she spends yet another hour after working time between the impressive shelves crapped with fantastic books. One night, as she is reading already having finished her labour, she hears a faint sigh from the neighbouring shelf. Curious, our story-teller gets up to find out who or what made this weary sound. As thecharacter turns around the corner she discovers Jakob Grimm, the famous German story teller, slumped down next to some books. The protagonist starts a conversation and comes to know that he doesn’t approve of the new fairytales such as Harry Potter. He feels terribly lonely and forgotten by the whole world. Touched by the aged master’s hurt feelings, our narrator tries to cheer the old man up. So that in the end he realizes that he serves as a source of inspiration to current authors. Glad to have helped him, the person carries on reading.

The Phantom Tollbooth by Elisa-1ºB
Dear readers,
Today I want to talk to you about how I came to love reading. Before I begin, I have to confess something: when I was little, I detested reading. Every time my mother sat me down on her lap to read me a story, I turned my head away stubbornly, on the verge of crying. But my mother, who really enjoys reading, didn’t give up. Now, her hard work paid off, and, I too, am now infatuated by books.
I also want to talk about one of my favourite books, (and hopefully inspire you to read it!): “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster.
It tells the tale of a young boy called
This is how Milo enters the
It is a wonderful book, thoroughly entertaining, and extremely insightful. I really recommend that you, my dear reader, search high and low for this book, and read it, and enjoy it, I hope, as much as I have.
One reading experience...
Hello! My name is Alicia, I’m 12 years old and I live in Santander. I’m going to tell you what happened to me years ago when I was so curious about words I found in the street. I wanted to read everything!
One day, when I was 4, I was walking with my mother and I saw the ONCE ( Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles) post, I recognized this word immediately and suddenly read it:
- /uans! /- I shouted.
- What?- my mother asked.
- Over there it is written /uans/- I repeated.
My mother couldn´t understand until she realized I was reading in English.
- Can you read it in Spanish? In Spanish it sounds different.
Now it was me the one who couldn´t understand what my mother was asking me to do, and I kept on saying:
-/uans/- I went on.
I was unable to read that familiar word in a different way.
She insisted a few times but there was no change.
Why couldn’t I read it in my own language?
Why was I so close to this word and so determined about its sound?
Because my mother used to read me English stories at bedtime and all of them started with the well-known: ‘Once upon a time….’ I couldn’t figure out a different way to read it.
In the end, my mother had to give up and tell me what the Spanish pronunciation of this writing is.
She explained me that it is an organisation for blind people.
That’s how I realized that memory has an important role in reading as much as deducing things.
Since then we call this place “el puesto de la uans”!!
